Janitor AI vs Candy AI: Which Is Cheaper and Safer for Adults?

Both Janitor AI and Candy AI are adults-only, both are real companies rather than scams, and Datalevo rates both Caution. Janitor AI suits an adult who mainly wants text roleplay: its free tier stays free, and janitor+ costs $12.99 a month. Candy AI is a paid companion app with generated images, voice and video, gives free users just 5 messages, and closes refunds 24 hours after you pay. Neither is suitable for anyone under 18, and both keep and can use what you type.

This comparison is based on our full reviews of Janitor AI (checked October 12, 2026) and Candy AI (checked September 30, 2026). Prices can differ by country and change often, so check the official sites before you pay.

Is Janitor AI or Candy AI cheaper?

Janitor AI, for most people. Its free tier needs no card and doesn’t run out after a few messages. janitor+ costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year, which saves $56.88 over twelve monthly payments. It adds about five times the free memory, faster replies at busy times and more models. The catch is Router credits, a pay-per-token wallet for extra models. They need an active subscription to spend, can expire 365 days after purchase, and are non-refundable.

Candy AI’s free tier ends after 5 messages. Its headline “$3.99 /month” is the annual plan, charged as one $47.88 payment that renews automatically. Monthly is $13.99. Weekly and fortnightly options appear in its payment text, and weekly billing works out at $291.20 a year, about six times the annual plan. Each paid plan includes unlimited text chat and roughly 100 tokens a month for images, voice and video. Tokens don’t roll over.

If you’re unsure you’ll stay past three months, Candy’s monthly plan is the cheaper test: three months at $13.99 is $41.97, less than the $47.88 annual charge.

Which has the better refund policy?

Neither is generous, but Candy AI’s rules are the ones most likely to catch you out. Outside the EU and UK, you must ask within 24 hours of paying, have used no more than 20 tokens, and have paid by card. Miss any one and the money stays with EverAI. EU and UK residents can withdraw from a first purchase within 14 days, minus a prorated share for what they used. A chargeback cancels premium access and wipes your tokens the moment it’s filed.

Janitor AI’s subscriptions renew automatically, and cancelling stops the next charge without refunding the current period. Router credits are final, and deleting your account cancels any you haven’t used. A ban or filtered reply doesn’t entitle you to a refund.

Which is safer for your privacy?

Both keep what you type, and neither promises nobody reads it. Janitor’s privacy policy lists chat conversations among the data it collects and “research and development to improve our AI systems” among the uses. We found no opt-out. Content moderation and abuse investigations are named purposes, and data is kept “only for as long as necessary” with no number attached. If you use the janitor+ Router or your own API proxy, an outside model provider handles your messages under its own rules.

Candy AI goes further on paper. Its privacy notice says third-party AI model providers “may receive the content of your messages,” moderators can see flagged content, and de-identified chats are used to train EverAI’s models with human review. Its terms grant EverAI a perpetual, royalty-free license to content you submit, including for training and marketing. Deleting your account doesn’t pull back data already de-identified and used. Payment records are kept for 10 years under tax law.

On either app: use a nickname, keep real names, addresses and photos of real people out of chats, and assume a moderator could read anything you write.

Are Janitor AI and Candy AI safe for teens?

No. Both are built for adults. Janitor’s terms say anyone under 18 is “strictly prohibited” and its guidelines allow mature roleplay between adults. Candy AI’s plan page advertises 18+ images and video.

Janitor’s enforcement is the weak point we found. Face-scan and ID checks through k-ID run only in Australia, Brazil and the UK. Its help article tells everyone else “nothing changes for you.” Our Candy AI review didn’t examine how it checks age, so we can’t compare the two on that. Parents shouldn’t rely on either platform. Use Screen Time on iPhone or Google Family Link on Android to block adult-rated apps, and block both websites in the browser.

Which has more trustworthy reviews?

Janitor’s official apps have thousands of store ratings: 4.5 on the US App Store from about 4,700 ratings and 4.3 on Google Play from roughly 19,700. Its small Trustpilot profile, unclaimed, showed 2.7 from 32 reviews. The newest complaints were about answer quality, memory, bugs and automated bans. None mentioned a surprise charge.

Candy AI’s Trustpilot profile was removed when we checked, with a notice that the business “goes against our guidelines.” Trustpilot doesn’t say which rule, so it isn’t proof of fraud. It does mean the main independent complaint page is gone while Candy’s checkout still shows hand-picked testimonials and a “Trusted by 50M Users” claim. Treat those as advertising.

Can you use both?

Yes, but think about cost and data before you do. Two accounts mean two places storing your chats, and both companies can use them to improve their AI. If you only want text roleplay, Janitor’s free tier may be enough. If you subscribe to Candy, set a reminder for 20 hours after paying so you can decide inside the refund window.

Red flags to watch

  • Lookalike Janitor apps. One App Store listing that search results still showed under a “Janitor AI” title opened as a different AI-friends app. Install only apps sold by JanitorAI.
  • Fake Janitor setup guides that ask for your API proxy key, and sites that harvest emails through magic-link logins.
  • Unofficial Janitor clients that ask for your password. Janitor can delete accounts that use them.
  • Candy AI’s “$3.99 /month” headline price, which is a single $47.88 annual charge.
  • An “EverAI” line on a bank statement you don’t recognise. That’s Candy AI’s billing name.
  • A shared card or device. Both apps are adult services.

Which should you choose?

  • You want free text roleplay: Janitor AI’s free tier.
  • You want generated images, voice or video from a companion: Candy AI, starting on the monthly plan and paying by card.
  • You want the least billing risk: Janitor AI, which showed no pattern of surprise-charge complaints in our sample.
  • You want chats kept out of AI training: neither offers that, based on their current policies.
  • You’re choosing for someone under 18: neither.
  • You’re leaning on an app for emotional support: Candy AI’s terms say it’s for entertainment and isn’t meant as support. Talk to a person you trust or a professional.
