One year of ChatOn’s paid plan costs $29.99 through a deal shop, $59.99 on ChatOn’s own website, or $7.99 a week inside the iPhone app. Stay on that weekly plan for 52 weeks and you’ve paid $415.48. Same app. Almost 14 times the price.
ChatOn AI is legit. It’s a real product from AIBY Inc., a company with a Miami address, and the App Store shows 4.7 stars from 286,000 ratings. Our verdict is still Caution, for two reasons you can avoid once you know them: the weekly plan, and what the free version is allowed to do with your chats.
Last checked: October 6, 2026. How we checked this is explained at the end.
What is ChatOn AI, and is it ChatGPT?
ChatOn and ChatGPT are different products from different companies. ChatOn is an app that sits on top of other firms’ models: you type, and it passes your prompt to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or Perplexity, then shows you the answer. Its own site describes it as an independent aggregator with no affiliation to the model makers.
The confusion is understandable. The Android app’s ID on Google Play is ai.chat.gpt.bot, and both store listings put Chat Bot Assistant in the name. The developer is AIBY Inc., 66 W Flagler Street, Miami, which also publishes a plant identifier, a coin scanner and a heart-rate app.
One oddity before you install it. ChatOn’s pages don’t agree on which model free users get. The homepage’s Free column says GPT-5.6. The FAQ says GPT-4o mini. The pricing page says GPT-4o mini and Claude 3 Haiku. We read all three on the same day, so don’t pick ChatOn’s free tier for a particular model.
ChatOn AI pricing: one subscription, six ways to pay
Every price below was on screen on October 6, 2026: the first three on chaton.ai/pricing, the weekly ones in the in-app purchase list on the US App Store, and the last on the PCWorld Shop, a deal store run by StackCommerce.
| Where you pay | Price | Cost over 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| Website, yearly | $59.99 a year | $59.99 |
| Website, quarterly | $39.99 a quarter | $159.96 |
| Website, monthly | $19.99 a month | $239.88 |
| iPhone app, Premium access (1 week) | $6.99 a week | $363.48 |
| iPhone app, Weekly PRO access (free trial) | $7.99 a week | $415.48 |
| Deal-shop code, 1 year, new users only | $29.99 once | $29.99 |
Apple’s list also shows Premium tiers at $29.99 and $39.99 and a “PRO+ (1 year)” at $59.99, without saying what period the first two cover. Android prices aren’t listed on the Google Play page at all.
The weekly plan is where people lose money. It’s the one attached to the free trial, it renews every seven days, and four weeks of it cost more than a month on the website: about $32 against $19.99. If you only want to test ChatOn, note the trial end date Apple shows when you subscribe and cancel a full day before it.
Two cautions on the cheap end. The $29.99 code is for new accounts, has to be redeemed within 30 days, and can’t be refunded once it’s redeemed. And a web purchase doesn’t always follow you to the phone: a Trustpilot reviewer in June 2026 said the app wouldn’t recognise a subscription bought on the website with the same email.

Is ChatOn AI safe? Check this setting first
Gridinsoft’s scanner gives chaton.ai 99 out of 100, with no malware or phishing detections in a scan dated September 20, 2026. The safety question is about your conversations.
ChatOn’s privacy policy, last modified in July 2026, says excerpts or context from your prompts and chat history can be shared with contextual advertising partners. It names one, Velocity IO, Inc., listed as based in Israel. The excerpts travel with your IP address and device identifiers, and the ads they select appear inside your chat history.
That only applies to people who haven’t paid. The policy says these ads are shown to users without a purchased subscription.
You can switch it off. The policy gives the route:
- Open ChatOn and go to Settings.
- Tap Context Ad Settings.
- Turn off the toggle labelled “Enable context for ads”.
With the toggle off, the policy says conversation context isn’t shared for ads. It adds that this doesn’t change cookie-based advertising on the website, which has its own controls. We haven’t installed the app, so we can’t confirm where the menu sits on your version.
Apple’s privacy label points the same way. Under “Data Used to Track You”, the App Store lists purchases, location, user content, identifiers, usage data, diagnostics and other data for ChatOn. User content is Apple’s category for the things you type or upload.
The same policy says ChatOn won’t rent or sell personal data, then concedes that sharing for interest-based ads can count as a sale under some US state laws. The practical rule: on the free version, don’t paste in anything about your health, your money or your clients until that toggle is off.
ChatOn AI reviews: the complaints aren’t the usual ones
Store ratings are high: 4.7 from 286,000 ratings on the App Store and 4.5 from 438,000 reviews on Google Play. Trustpilot is cooler, at 4.3 from about 3,400 reviews, with 10% of them one-star. ChatOn has replied to 57% of its negative reviews there, typically within two weeks.
We read the 20 most recent one-star Trustpilot reviews, dated June 2 to September 21, 2026. With most subscription apps we review, that list is mostly billing complaints. Here it wasn’t:
- 11 were about the product: wrong answers, a file that wouldn’t upload, work that had disappeared.
- 3 were about money: a refund that hadn’t arrived, a web subscription the phone app ignored, and someone who paid and couldn’t use it.
- 2 said “free” ran into a paywall almost immediately.
- 1 complained about being asked for a rating after two questions.
- The other 3 were too vague to sort, or were about a different app.
The paywall complaints fit the paperwork. On the web, the Subscription Terms describe five free requests with Premium features, after which you’re asked to choose a paid plan.
Is ChatOn AI legit or a scam?
It’s legit. There’s a named company, a public price list, a refund policy with actual day counts, and an app with more than 10 million Google Play downloads. Nothing we read supports calling it a scam.
Caution is about defaults. On an iPhone, the plan that carries the free trial is the most expensive one ChatOn sells. On the free version, parts of your chats can help pick ads unless you opt out. And the name will keep making some buyers think they’ve paid OpenAI. Change the first two and ChatOn is an ordinary, reasonably priced way to use several models in one app.
How to cancel ChatOn AI and what the refund policy allows
Cancelling depends on where you paid. ChatOn’s Subscription Terms, dated September 2026, give these routes, and all of them need doing at least 24 hours before the renewal:
- Website: the Manage Subscription button in your account settings, the cancellation link in your purchase confirmation email, or an email to [email protected]. Web payments run through Paddle.
- iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, ChatOn, Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Play Store, profile icon, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, ChatOn, Cancel subscription.
Refunds for app purchases belong to Apple or Google. For website purchases, ChatOn’s Refund Policy sets a window that depends on the plan, counted from the first payment:
| Website plan | Refund window |
|---|---|
| 1 month | 7 days |
| 3 months | 10 days |
| 1 year | 14 days |
| 1 year, after an automatic renewal | 5 days from the renewal date |
Read the conditions around that table. The windows are described as guidance, and every refund stays at ChatOn’s discretion unless your local law says otherwise. A change of mind is listed as a reason to refuse. So is heavy use: if you actively used the product and can’t show a serious bug, the policy says the request may be denied.
Some buyers have stronger rights written into the same page. People in the EU, the UK and Switzerland can withdraw within 14 days of purchase. New York residents can ask for a pro-rated refund within 14 days if a plan renewed at a higher price than they first paid.
One warning. The Subscription Terms say ChatOn may close your account if you file a chargeback. Ask ChatOn in writing first ([email protected]), inside the window, and keep the reply.
Which ChatOn plan makes sense, if any
If you’ll use it all year, buy the yearly plan on the website and skip the app’s weekly offer. If you’re curious for a week, the free version with the ad toggle off costs nothing.
If there’s one model you care about, compare ChatOn’s price with subscribing to that model’s maker directly. You’d know exactly which model is answering.
Use.AI sells the same many-models-in-one idea behind a $1 trial, and AI Cleaner has the same gap between its weekly and yearly prices. And if a quiz led you to a paywall, Brain AI shows where that road can end.
How we checked this
On October 6, 2026 we read ChatOn’s homepage, FAQ and pricing page (all three billing tabs), its Terms of Use (April 2026), Subscription Terms (September 2026), Refund Policy (December 2025) and Privacy Policy (July 2026). We read the US App Store listing, including the in-app purchase list and the privacy label, the Google Play listing, the Trustpilot profile and its 20 newest one-star reviews, Gridinsoft’s scan of chaton.ai, and the PCWorld Shop deal page.
What we couldn’t check: we didn’t install the app, create an account, start a trial or pay. That means we haven’t seen the in-app paywall, the length of the free trial, the ads or the Context Ad Settings screen ourselves. Prices are the US dollar prices shown to us and may differ in your country.
Prices, plans and features change often. Check the official site before you pay. Datalevo isn’t affiliated with or paid by any company mentioned here. Research and drafting were AI-assisted, and every figure was checked against the linked sources. Our full process is on the How We Review page.
FAQs
Is ChatOn AI legit?
Yes. ChatOn is a real app from AIBY Inc. in Miami, with a public price list, a written refund policy and a 4.7 rating on the App Store. We rate it Caution because of its expensive weekly plan and because the free version can share chat excerpts with an advertising partner.
Is ChatOn the same as ChatGPT?
No. ChatOn is an independent app that sends your prompts to models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Perplexity. Its own site says it isn’t affiliated with those companies, so paying ChatOn doesn’t give you a ChatGPT subscription.
How much does ChatOn AI cost?
On October 6, 2026 the website charged $19.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $59.99 a year. The US App Store listed weekly plans at $6.99 and $7.99, which add up to $363.48 and $415.48 over a year. There is also a free version.
Does ChatOn AI share my chats?
Its privacy policy says excerpts of prompts and chat history can be shared with a contextual advertising partner to choose ads for users who haven’t subscribed. You can stop it in Settings, under Context Ad Settings, by turning off “Enable context for ads”. Prompts are also sent to the AI model providers so they can answer.
How do I cancel ChatOn AI?
If you paid on the website, use Manage Subscription in your account settings or the cancellation link in your confirmation email. If you paid in the app, cancel in your Apple or Google Play subscription settings. Do it at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
