Is Use.AI Legit or a Scam? What It Is and the $29.99 Charge

Is Use.AI Legit? A Complete Billing, Safety, and Trust Review (2026)

Use.AI is a paid chat app that puts ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and other AI models behind one login. The company, Use AI Inc., writes the name as Use AI (some people type UseAI), and the site is use.ai. It runs on the web, iPhone and Android.

The charge that sends people searching is almost always the same one. You pay $1 for a 7-day trial, forget about it, and on day 7 your card is hit for the monthly plan: $29.99 in the US, and reviewers in Europe report €30.

That’s how the product is designed, and Use AI’s own trial help page says so plainly. So it isn’t a scam in the fraud sense. It’s a working product from a real company: Forbes describes Use.ai as a San Francisco start-up founded by Ihor Herasymov, with more than 1 million monthly users. Our verdict is Caution: legit, but built on a trial that converts quietly, and a lot of people only find out from their bank statement.

Last checked: October 5, 2026. How we checked this is explained at the end.

What is Use.AI, and what are you paying for?

Use AI is an aggregator. It doesn’t build its own frontier model. It buys access to other companies’ models and puts them behind one chat window, with a footer that says it isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by those providers. If you thought you were signing up for an official ChatGPT or Claude product, you weren’t.

There are three plans on the pricing page. Free gives you everyday chat with the company’s own “Use AI Instant” model at limited capacity. Pro unlocks the premium models (Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-5.6 Sol, Gemini 3.8 Flash, Grok 4.7 and DeepSeek V4 Pro were all on the list on October 5, 2026), plus image generation and Deep Research. Max raises the usage allowance five times over and adds Claude Fable 5.1.

Pro isn’t unlimited on the premium models. Each plan has a monthly allowance, applied weekly on paid plans and daily during the trial. Use AI’s own estimate for Pro is roughly 238 Claude Opus 5.5 messages a week, or about 95 on GPT-6 Astra, and the page stresses that real counts vary with conversation length and attachments. One Trustpilot reviewer on a paid plan complained of being told to upgrade or wait after two short questions, so read the limits before you pay.

Use.AI reviews: why Trustpilot and Reddit contradict each other

On Trustpilot, Use AI has a 4.0 score from 50,821 reviews. Scroll further and the split is stark: 71% five-star, 17% one-star, and very little in between. ScamAdviser rates the domain as likely legitimate, while Reddit threads tell people to stay away.

Look at the labels on Trustpilot and the gap starts to make sense. When we read the most recent page of reviews, most five-star entries were marked “Invited,” which means Use AI asked the customer to leave one. The angriest billing complaints were marked “Unprompted.” Trustpilot notes that Use AI invites all customers, positive or negative, so this isn’t a rule violation. It does mean happy users get a nudge and unhappy ones show up on their own.

Trustpilot’s own AI summary lands in the same place: people like the speed and formatting, and complain about “unexpected subscription charges” and trouble cancelling. Both groups are describing the same product. One read the renewal terms and the other didn’t.

Is Use.AI a scam? The day-7 arithmetic

The trial fee is $1, sometimes split into two $0.50 charges to confirm your card supports recurring payments. Exactly 7 days later it renews “at the regular price you saw at checkout,” and then every month on the same date.

The trial help page doesn’t print that price. The pricing page does, but only if you click for it. It opens on the Quarterly tab, where US visitors see Pro at $19.99 a month, charged as $59.97 every three months. The 7-day trial sits on the Monthly tab.

We opened that tab on October 5, 2026 from Pakistan, so the site showed rupees: ₨8,328.22 a month, billed monthly, beside a button reading “Try 7 days for ₨277.70.” Divide one by the other and you get 29.99. That’s the same ratio as the $29.99 reviewers report after a $1 trial, and the Forbes profile of October 1, 2026 also puts the paid plan at $29.99 a month and up. A 6-month plan at 40% off has appeared too, charged in a single payment. Here’s what forgetting the monthly trial costs:

You notice afterTotal paidRefundable under the stated policy?
Cancelling on day 6$1Nothing to refund
1 month$30.99No, unless you cancelled the trial in time or hit a technical error
3 months$90.97No, same exceptions
6 months$180.94No, same exceptions

Those totals assume the $29.99 monthly rate. The refund policy says fees are non-refundable once a billing cycle starts. It makes two exceptions: you cancelled a trial on time and were charged anyway, or a technical error happened within 30 days of purchase, which is reviewed case by case. It’s the same trap we found in Finestro AI’s trial, and it’s why the cheap entry price matters less than the date.

How to cancel a Use.AI subscription (it depends where you paid)

Where you cancel depends on where you paid. This is the step people get wrong most often. These routes come from Use AI’s cancellation help page as of October 5, 2026, and flows can change.

Paid on the website

  1. Go to use.ai/subscription/cancel.
  2. Sign in with the email on your subscription.
  3. Choose Cancel subscription and confirm.

Paid in the iPhone or iPad app

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Select Use AI: AI Chat, then Cancel Subscription.

Apple bills app subscriptions, so cancelling on the website won’t stop an App Store charge. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel anything, and for Apple-billed plans neither does deleting your Use AI account. If you cancel mid-trial, you keep Pro access until day 7 and then drop to the Free plan.

The pricing page now lists Android as well, but when we checked on October 5, 2026 the cancellation help page still had no Google Play steps. If Google Play billed you, Google’s instructions are: open your subscriptions in Google Play, select the one you want to end, and tap Cancel subscription. Uninstalling the app doesn’t cancel it.

If charges continue after you cancel, Use AI says the two usual causes are an Apple-billed plan you cancelled in the wrong place, or a second account under a different email or sign-in method. Check both before you assume the worst.

How to get a refund from Use.AI

Email [email protected] from the address on your account, with the date and amount of the charge. The refunds page says every request is reviewed and answered in the same email thread. For App Store charges, Apple handles refunds through reportaproblem.apple.com.

One pattern is hard to miss. Use AI replies to one-star Trustpilot reviews by asking the reviewer to email [email protected] with a reference number, and says an approved refund is usually processed within hours. We can’t confirm how often those refunds are approved, but it suggests the company would rather refund a complaint than leave it public. If email gets you nowhere, a card dispute with your bank is still available.

Before you start any trial like this, set a phone reminder for day 5 and consider paying with a card you can freeze. It’s cheap insurance.

Is Use.AI worth it, or should you cancel?

Keep it if you really do switch between several models every week and would otherwise pay for two or three subscriptions. That’s the case where one bill makes sense.

Cancel if you mostly use one model. Going direct to the official plan is simpler and you’ll know exactly what the limits are. Our comparison of the $20 ChatGPT and Claude plans shows what the official tiers include. For other tools with the same trial-to-subscription pattern, see our Global Work AI review, and for a research-focused alternative, our look at whether Perplexity is safe.

Is Use.AI safe for your data?

On privacy, the usual rule applies to any AI wrapper: your prompts pass through Use AI on their way to the underlying model, so keep sensitive personal or work data out of it.

How we checked this

On September 24, 2026 we read Use AI’s pricing page and its help center articles on the trial, cancellation, refunds and the refund policy, and reviewed its Trustpilot profile, including the rating breakdown and the labels on the most recent reviews. On October 5, 2026 we re-read the pricing, trial, cancellation and refund pages, opened each billing tab on the pricing page (from Pakistan, so prices appeared in rupees) and updated the Trustpilot review count. We also read a Forbes profile of the company published October 1, 2026. The screenshots in this article were taken when it was first published in July 2026.

We didn’t start a trial or pay for a plan. The $29.99 monthly figure comes from customer reports and the price ratio on the pricing page, not from our own checkout, and we didn’t see the Monthly tab priced in US dollars ourselves. The US quarterly price comes from an automated fetch of the same page.

Prices, plans and features change often. Check the official site before you pay. Datalevo isn’t affiliated with or paid by any company mentioned here. Research and drafting were AI-assisted, and every figure was checked against the linked sources. Our full process is on the How We Review page.

FAQs

What is Use.AI?

Use.AI is an all-in-one AI chat app from Use AI Inc. that lets you use models such as Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek from one account on the web, iPhone and Android. It isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by the companies that make those models. Paid use starts with a $1, 7-day trial that renews at the monthly price.

Is Use.AI a scam?

No. It’s a working app from Use AI Inc. that gives access to many AI models. Most complaints are about a $1 trial that renews automatically on day 7 at the full monthly price.

Why did Use AI charge me $29.99?

Most likely your 7-day trial ended and converted into a monthly subscription. Use AI’s help pages say the trial renews on day 7 at the regular price shown at checkout, and reviewers report that price as $29.99.

How do I cancel my Use AI subscription?

If you paid on the website, go to use.ai/subscription/cancel, sign in and confirm. If you paid in the iOS app, cancel in iPhone Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel.

Can I get a refund from Use AI?

The policy says charges aren’t refundable once a billing cycle starts, except when you cancelled a trial on time or hit a technical error within 30 days. Email [email protected] with the charge date and amount; each request is reviewed.

Is Use AI worth it?

It can be if you regularly use several different models and would otherwise pay for multiple subscriptions. If you mostly use one model, the official plan from that provider is simpler.

Who is behind Use.AI?

The site is run by Use AI Inc. Forbes reported in October 2026 that it’s a San Francisco start-up founded by Ihor Herasymov and incubated at Ruby Labs, with more than 1 million monthly users.

Is Use.AI the same as ChatGPT or Claude?

No. Use.AI is a separate company that resells access to models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others inside its own app. Its footer says it isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by those providers, and a Use.AI plan doesn’t give you an official ChatGPT or Claude account.
